CES Tenant Leaders Meet With 
their City Council Members' Representatives

On December 4, 2008, CES tenant leaders from a building on Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake met with City Council President Eric Garcetti's Field Deputy Ryan Carpio and Caseworker Arsen Melikyan to solicit their assistance regarding the conditions at their building.  Tenants explained that their apartments are infested with cockroaches and the landlord has done little to remedy the situation.  Tenants, with CES' assistance together with the Healthy Homes Collaborative, have implemented Intergrated Pest Management (IPM) which is a procedure to rid infestation using non-toxic methods together with ensuring need code violation repairs and sealing all cracks in walls. Tenants also sought help for tenants living on the first floor of their building who are at-risk of eviction due to renovations to bring those units into code compliance. The Council Member's staff expressed their support to the tenants.
